Being Alive - Music for Everyone

It’s a fairly simple concept, really. We have a microphone, some speakers, and a group of young people who know a bunch of songs. So we bring them to places that need some music.

Think of the places that need cheering up.

It’s 2021. You all know what’s going on in the world - we’re all cooped up, inside, and watching our hygiene like never before. But it’s places like retirement homes, hospitals, homes for the sick and elderly, and other specialized group living facilities that are having the hardest go of it. Keeping people fed, cared for, healthy, and entertained, in close quarters and while managing PPE and physical distancing is a nightmare - and residents of these places need some levity.

So what do we do?

We come to any facility that wants us, we plug in, and we perform. In a parking lot, on a lawn, it doesn’t matter. We keep our distance, wear masks, sanitize religiously, and turn the sound up - all our audience needs to do is open a window and listen in.

We:

  • Bring a long extension chord (all we need is an outlet!)

  • Wear masks, use mic covers, sanitize between performers, and use pre-recorded tracks (no wind instruments!) for maximum hygiene.

  • Keep our distance and spread some joy.

  • Do it completely for free, because we want to use our skills to brighten someone’s day.

If someone you know could use some cheering up at their shared living facility, please contact us, and we will work with you to arrange a time to play some music, at no cost to anyone.

The Being Alive Team

In mid-June, we got together on a front lawn to have our first rehearsal. We had photos taken to document SGTC’s first project and proof of concept for Being Alive. Luckily, that means we also get to use the pictures to credit our wonderful friends who are helping us out!

(Note: Not everyone was there, so this is who we have pictures of)
